Normally for each of these holidays or events I do an inspiration board. Normally I would show my latest design for the occasion. This Father’s Day is not so normal for me since I just lost my father this May. I thought this post would be the hardest to write since past couple of year’s I have gotten to honor to two great father’s, my own Daddy and my husband. Since my men love meat none is spared for our grill. I marinate, season rub, and grill everything to perfection for my guys! This year the grill will still be fired and everything cooked in loving anticipation of being eaten to oblivion. The difference is I will honor my Dad’s memory. I will remember the times he took me fishing as a little girl. His fishing pole was long and blue, mine small and red. I would drown every worm he put on my hook never catching one fish but, oh the fun we had together! This year I will tell my kids beautiful stories they never knew about their Grand-dad and watch them laugh. This year will be different but, I will still honor him.
As a business owner, well basically one woman show, I’m responsible for all the content you see from CiJa Studio. This means time has to be scheduled to design new product, update 3 stores, photograph items, and most importantly interact on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. If reading this list exhausts you then imagine doing it while managing a household with two pre-teens on top of it! This is where my new helper fanchimp comes in. Music please…dun, da, da, daaaaaa!!!!
Oh how I love fanchimp! Fanchimp has allowed me to do what used to take hours in as little as a few minutes. My perfect “social media helper” works with my shop by adding a plug-in or link if you will. Then it allows you to select from your product, personal messages, and more to update your Facebook fan-page. Then once you’ve made your selections based on your preferences you select content relevant to your fans. You use this to create daily campaigns to load to your Facebook fan-page with an option to link to a Twitter account. Fanchimp make everything easy by selecting the best time to post each selection to the page so you don’t have to.
So here’s my final review, the big shout….I love fanchimp! I really do. I actually say it every time I log in and update my page because it used to take me forever to comb the internet looking for interesting content to share. Now with my new helper fanchimp great content is just a click away . Best of all they even gave me 30 days FREE to give them a try. I took the free trial and I’m really glad I gave the chimp a chance!

Pickles and Ice cream Baby Shower Cupcake Toppers by CiJa Studio
When you go to celebrate a party the cake is usually the center piece at the party. Lately a smaller and delicious counterpart is stealing the show. Its name is the cupcake. The cupcake is now in the spotlight and has become the star of the party. By using cupcakes for your party you allow for ultimate flexibility of customization. You can have more variety of flavors by using more than one or two to suit your taste preference. From an artistic stand point you can have your many of the cupcakes decorated differently allowing the theme of your party to really shine through.
Another way to make your cupcakes shine are to plainly white frosted cupcakes and decorate them with a fun cupcake topper. A cupcake topper is a small picture printed on card-stock cut into a shape that has been attached with adhesive to a stick and placed into the top of the cupcake. To be honest I really didn’t know that cupcake toppers could be so much fun to decorate until I started getting my sketch book out. Once I started sketching designs to companion with our invitations I was addicted to these lovely little things!

This shower can be taken literally with red carpets being laid down for your guest to walk in on as they enter the shower, directors chairs being used to sit on while playing games, and award statuettes given out for baby shower game prizes. This approach would be very fun and memorable for your guests. Another direction to go in would be Hollywood glam. Instead of using plastic centerpieces use fresh flowers instead. Try infusing colors of red or yellow with pops of black for fun even though these aren’t typical baby shower theme colors. Also you can hang stars from the ceiling for a touch of whimsy. Add a decadent flair to your tables by using metallic color table linens layered solid colors to give more star appeal. For drinks try making mock-tails served in either real or plastic stemware. Labeling them with matching place cards is a very red carpet way to tell your guests what drink is being served. Also don’t forget to get thank your guests in style by wrapping their party favor in a gorgeous package that says Hollywood glam. Have fun and go all out in Hollywood style so everyone will celebrate the star of the night and the star on the way!

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, taking care of family, and working the daily grind sometimes we find sitting;in front of a bowl of chicken soup with a box of tissue. Now if I looked at this from my daughter’s perspective she would be beaming from ear to ear, grateful for the extra time off from school, and all of the work that comes with it. So I suppose at times like this it’s all about perspective. What do we do when life throws us a curve and we have to change our plans?
If your like me you go down fighting. I usually try to work feverishly in my office with hand sanitizer, and sprays until it becomes very apparent that my body is like “woman would you just quit already”! So this week I am taking the my daughter view on things and as I nurse myself back to health. While I ride out the viral crud bugs I am going taking advantage of the downtime to do the following:
1. Catch up on reading those really cool blogs I usually don’t have to time to read.
2. Taking a moment to do some business planning (I know it’s bad…I can’t help it I’m a grown up).
3. Finally, but most important take some time to cuddle with the ones I love who make me feel so much better when I’m sick.
So the morale of the story is life is still life whether your planning the perfect holiday or it’s just another day. The challenge is all in our perspective. If life throws you a curve ball that may require some chicken soup and tissue or some other form change you can do one of two things. You can sit around and be really upset that things aren’t going your way. This won’t help and will probably hinder you in the long run. Or you can make simple adjustments so you can roll with the curves. Now this may be inconvenient but, you’ll find life much less stressful when you chose to make adjustments. This season I’m rolling with the curves and taking it in stride. So this season take it easy on yourself and have a child-like perspective to make you smile with each and every turn.
It was just another day working at my computer when I was staring out my window. As I got lost in the moment I realized Thanksgiving had just passed and how fast Christmas and New Years was approaching. So with that frame of mind I started thinking about making a New Years Resolution. Ah yes, you know how it goes you get think of all the goals you set this year but did make, assess which ones are most important, and then put them on a list. For some it may be to take a vacation, others lose weight, or maybe find love. What’s important is we resolve to accomplish this list. That is what I really want us to think about.
My gorgeous forest preserve backyard view out my window.
If you could indulge me for a moment, I would like you to have a look at the view out of my window (the picture is up above). Now while you look at the photo think about what really inspires you? Next consider what is it that you have been wanting to do but haven’t done because of your fears? Next consider what did dream of doing when you “grew up”? Ok now I want you to stop looking at the view out my window and focus for a minute, if you can. If you were unable to answer any of those questions it’s alright you can feel refreshed because you took a moment of pause just for yourself. But, if you did answer at least one or more of those questions I encourage you not to make a resolution this year but to commit to your passion. Am I saying it’s bad to want to resolve to be more organized, get fit, or do any of these things to better ourselves? My answer is a resounding NO. What I am saying is often we make our New Years resolution ,year in and year out, without listening and giving precedence to our hearts true desires. Often we settle on our New Years goals because of our adult sensibility or because we do what is familiar and safe. I know because I did it for years before starting my studio. So that’s why I am giving you permission to be wild, get crazy, and go out on a limb. Don’t Make a Resolution for 2013 instead live on the edge and commit to your hearts passion! -Cicely
As I started designing this week I thought about my childhood. I remembered what it was like to want to see a mirror like image of myself on toys and represented on products in the world I lived in. So at the … Continue reading →
